Old Fashioned Christmas A Success

Almost 6,400 visitors to Sherbrooke Village participated in 2005 Old Fashioned Christmas events -- an increase from last year.

The activities, which traditionally were held over two weekends, took place over one weekend, Nov. 25 to Nov. 27.

"Opening night was attended by more than 3,300 people and a number of our musical and craft-related events exceeded our expectations," said Craig MacDonald, chair of the Old Fashioned Christmas committee. "We were not sure how people would react to having just the one weekend of activities, but the overall response was extremely positive."

Attendance increased at the craft sale closing concert, Ceilidh and dinner dance which was held at Liscombe Lodge.

"The business community really came onside this year," said George Brothers, manager of program development at Sherbrooke Village. "The accommodations sector enjoyed a marked increase over previous years. The number of room nights sold for this year's event more than quadrupled. Local hoteliers are obviously recognizing the potential that Old Fashioned Christmas brings for off-season growth."

Next year will mark the 11th anniversary of Old Fashioned Christmas and opening night activities are scheduled for Friday, Nov. 24, 2006.
