Minister Attends International Climate Change Conference
Nova Scotia's climate change solutions will be brought to the international stage today, Dec. 5, as Energy Minister Cecil Clarke joins delegates at the United Nations Climate Change Leaders Summit in Montreal.
"Earlier this fall, I released Nova Scotia's Green Energy Framework, a strategic view of our province's future energy needs balanced with our plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions," said Mr. Clarke. "This conference is an ideal opportunity to discuss Nova Scotia's climate change solutions and learn what other jurisdictions are doing to slow the effects of global warming."
The conference has attracted 10,000 delegates, including representatives from government, industry, business, the scientific community and other groups interested in action on climate change.
"Climate change is a global problem that requires co-operation from many jurisdictions," said Mr. Clarke. "We'll be working with other governments and organizations attending the conference to develop climate change solutions while, at the same time, positioning Nova Scotia and its environmental industries as leaders in energy sustainability and greenhouse gas reduction."
The conference runs until Friday, Dec. 9.
