Province Mourns Death of Pte. Braun Woodfield

Premier John Hamm is offering condolences on behalf of all Nova Scotians to the family of the late Pte. Braun Scott Woodfield on the day of his memorial service at CFB Gagetown.

"Pte. Woodfield served his country bravely and in the very best tradition of our Armed Forces," the premier said today, Dec. 2. "This is a time of profound sorrow for his family, friends and fellow soldiers. All Nova Scotians join me in paying tribute to Pte. Woodfield's selfless dedication in helping to bring peace to a troubled country."

Pte. Woodfield, of Cow Bay, Halifax Co., was killed Nov. 24 in an accident while on duty near Kandahar, Afghanistan. He was 24 years old.

Premier Hamm is travelling outside the country this morning; Minister of Economic Development Ernest Fage will represent the premier and the provincial government at today's memorial service at CFB Gagetown. Premier Hamm will pay formal tribute to Pte. Woodfield later this month in the House of Assembly when the fall session of the legislature resumes.
