Road-Paving Contract Awarded in Yarmouth County

Drivers east of the Town of Yarmouth will be travelling on smoother, safer roads after the completion of a paving contract that has been awarded by the Department of Transportation and Public Works.

The $1,517,680 contract was awarded to Dexter Construction and is for repaving on Saunders Road, from the intersection of Route 340 for 6.4 kilometres to the intersection of Raynardton Road, north of Raynardton. The project is scheduled for completion in the summer of 2006.

"In 2005 the province budgeted $30 million for capital road construction projects," said Ron Russell, Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "With another $30 million budgeted for capital work in 2006 next year's construction schedule promises to be just as successful."

The Department of Transportation and Public Works highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from district offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
