Investment Means More Jobs for Nova Scotians

Nova Scotians will see hundreds of new jobs and millions of dollars pumped into the provincial economy thanks to investments in five new film and television productions.

The Nova Scotia Film Development Corporation announced today, Nov. 9, equity investments totalling $781,500 in two television series, two television specials, and a feature film.

The total budget for the five projects is $12,423,024, with $12 million in direct spending in the province.

The investments were announced as part of the corporation's third funding round for 2005.

"The film industry continues to showcase Nova Scotia as the best place to produce films and television shows," said Ernest Fage, minister responsible for the film development corporation. "Each new production is one more opportunity for our young people to gain valuable experience in a fun and challenging industry."

Development investments totalling $75,174 were also announced for seven projects that include three television specials, one television series, and three feature films.

"The corporation is pleased to partner with the film community to ensure the sustainable growth of Nova Scotia's vibrant film industry," said Ann MacKenzie, chief executive officer of the corporation. "These productions are an excellent means to showcase Nova Scotia and the talent and abilities of this province's film sector."

Six film industry training and professional development initiatives are also being funded, enabling Nova Scotians in the film industry to develop their skills and gain valuable experience that will support future career advancement.

The Nova Scotia Film Development Corporation is a provincial Crown corporation reporting to the minister of Economic Development. The corporation provides a wide range of programs and services to build the capacity and competitiveness of the province's film, television and new media industries. The provincial film industry is the fourth largest in Canada, regularly exceeding $100 million in economic activity annually.
