4-H Members Compete at Royal Agricultural Winter Fair
Eighteen 4-H members will represent Nova Scotia at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair, Nov. 4 to 15, in Toronto to compete in dairy and beef shows, as well as the Young Speakers for Agriculture competition.
"Each year we send our best 4-H members to the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair to participate in different competitions," said Chris d'Entremont, Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries. "These young ambassadors will do a great job representing Nova Scotia's 4-H program and agriculture sector at this distinguished event."
Participants were selected at the 4-H Provincial Show in September. Megan MacBride of Kings County will compete in the Young Speakers for Agriculture event on Saturday, Nov. 5.
Eight 4-H dairy members will compete for top honours in Canada in the dairy show. Nova Scotia participants are Derek Yuill, and Melissa Fulton, Colchester County; Andrea Crowe and Derek Adema, Hants County; Sheila Sundborg and Josh Van der Linden, Antigonish County; and Ria Van der Linden, Guysborough County.
Nova Scotia representatives in the beef heifer show are Emily Parsons, Annapolis County; Carolyn Vanden Heuvel, Antigonish County; Megan Robertson, Pictou County; Nicole Greeno and Laura Coulter, Cumberland County; Justin Beck and Jane Ogilvie, Kings County; and Cornelia Van den Hoek, Colchester County.
Nathan Dickie of Colchester County, will attend as the winner of the Versteeg Memorial Award. This award is presented to a 4-H member based on 50 per cent of the conformation of the calf and 50 per cent of their showmanship ability.
4-H members will compete in the cattle classes, participate in a provincial display contest and spend a day attending events at the exhibition.
