Tenders Called for Bridge Project in Glace Bay

Walkers and drivers on the Commercial Street Bridge in Glace Bay will have a safer crossing thanks to a project tendered by the province to upgrade the bridge's deck, sidewalks, and railings.

The Department of Transportation and Public Works called for a tender on Wednesday, Oct. 19, to refurbish the Commercial Street Bridge across Renwick Brook in Glace Bay. The cost of the project will be shared by the province and Cape Breton Regional Municipality.

"Bridges are an important part of our highway system," said Ron Russell, Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "The province is spending $27 million this year to upgrade or replace bridges and overpasses."

Information on all government tenders is available on the website at www.gov.ns.ca/tenders .

The Department of Transportation and Public Works' highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from district offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
