$3.8-Million in Road Improvement Projects for Yarmouth County
Drivers in Yarmouth County will benefit from almost $4 million worth of provincial road-improvement projects awarded in the county during the past two months.
Work is already underway on the largest project, which is the replacement of the East Kempt Bridge on Route 203 near Kemptville.
The contract for that job is valued at $2,221,720 and is being performed by Waterworks Construction Limited.
A second bridge replacement contract, worth $1,189,367, was awarded to Leslie and Benn Piledriving and Construction Ltd. to replace the Carleton Bridge on Route 203 east of Carleton.
Also on the schedule are two contracts awarded to Aberdeen Paving, one a $363,300 contract for repaving on Route 203 east of East Kemptville, and the other a $48,300 paving contract on Captain Landers Court and Church Lane in Hebron. The cost of the work in Hebron is being shared by the province and the County of Yarmouth.
All of these jobs are scheduled for completion before the end of the year.
"The province is going all out to return Nova Scotia's roads to top shape," said Ron Russell, Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "This year's capital budget for road work is $143 million, including $13 million for bridges."
The Department of Transportation and Public Works' highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from district offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
