Provincial Librarian Named

Nova Scotia has a new provincial librarian.

Jennifer Evans has been selected to oversee the province's public library system.

"Ms. Evans is an exceptional leader in public library service and we're very fortunate to have her at the Department of Education," said Education Minister Jamie Muir.

Ms. Evans brings 20 years of experience to her new director's position. Most recently, she was manager of Alderney Gate Public Library in Dartmouth.

"It's very exciting to be taking on this new challenge," she said. "One of the most important things the provincial librarian needs to achieve is improving the profile of libraries across the province, ensuring all Nova Scotians are aware of the many valuable services they have access to."

The education minister made the announcement at a joint meeting of the Library Boards Association of Nova Scotia and the Nova Scotia Library Association in Amherst on Saturday, Oct. 1.

Nova Scotians made more than 5.7 million trips to their local library branches last year, borrowing almost 6.9 million books, talking books, DVDs and other items.
