Province Awards Paving Contract In HRM

Two areas on the west side of Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) will get newly paved streets thanks to a contract awarded by the province.

The Department of Transportation and Public Works has awarded a $587,915 contract to Dexter Construction for new paving on Bristol Avenue in Haliburton Heights from the intersection of Sherwood Drive to the end of the street.

Rising Sun Trail in Highland Park will also receive new pavement from the intersection of Leeward Avenue for half a kilometre to its end. The project is co-funded equally by the province and HRM.

"These areas are growing quickly and need pavement," said Michael Baker, acting Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "We're working closely with municipalities to identify paving priorities."

The Department of Transportation and Public Works' highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from district offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
