Province Awards Contract for Paving in Kings County
A $1,387,380 road-paving contract in the Kentville area has been announced by the Department of Transportation and Public works.
The contract was awarded to Lafarge Canada Inc. and work has already begun on the contract that calls for repaving on three roads near Kentville as follows:
- Brooklyn Street from the Kentville west town line for 4.2 kilometres.
- Route 359 from Al Bennett Road north for 3.4 kilometres to West Halls Harbour Road.
- West Halls Harbour Road from the intersection of Route 359 west for 0.6 kilometres to Simpson Road.
The total project is scheduled for completion in mid-October.
"This contract is part of the province's program to upgrade Nova Scotia's highways," said Michael Baker, acting Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "The department is spending $143 million for road construction this year."
The Department of Transportation and Public Works' highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from district offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
