Province Receives $6 Million in Disaster Financial Assistance
Nova Scotians affected by province-wide flooding in March of 2003 will receive a second payment from the federal government under the Disaster Financial Assistance Program.
Ernest Fage, Minister responsible for the Emergency Measures Act, accepted the $6-million cheque today, Sept. 13.
"The contribution of the federal government is of great benefit to our province," said Mr. Fage. "On behalf of Nova Scotians, I want to acknowledge how much we appreciate the continued support of the federal government through the Disaster Financial Assistance program."
This is the second payment the federal government has made to the province for the March 2003 floods. To date, Nova Scotia has received a total of $10 million.
Although the Disaster Financial Assistance Arrangement program involves a lengthy application process, the province will continue to work with the federal government to shorten the time it takes for reimbursement and help communities recover from the devastating effects of natural disasters, such as the March 2003 floods.
