$15.5 Million Invested in Two New Schools for Truro

Families and students in Truro are one step closer to having two new schools for the 2007-08 school year.

One school will be built near the intersection of East Prince Street and Harmony Road. It is estimated to cost about $7 million dollars and will accommodate roughly 300 students in grades Primary to 6.

The other school will be built on Kaulback Street, just off of Willow Street, near the Nova Scotia Community College campus. It will cost about $8.5 million and be home to about 500 students.

"Our government is committed to helping school boards provide modern, safe learning centres for our youth," said Jamie Muir, Minister of Education. "I would like to thank the school board and its site-selection committee for all the dedication and hard work that went into their proposals for these two schools."

The Department of Transportation and Public Works will now proceed with the necessary negotiations and consultations, then issue tenders for the construction work.

Since 2000, the government of Nova Scotia has approved 10 school- construction and renovation projects within the Chignecto-Central Regional School Board, worth an estimated $121.2 million.
