Paving Contract Awarded in Inverness County
A $1,731,635 road-paving contract in Inverness County has been announced by the Department of Transportation and Public Works.
The contract, awarded to Dexter Construction Co. Ltd., is for repaving various sections of Trunk 19 from Mabou Harbour Bridge south for 11 kilometres to Port Hood.
"Good roads are a vital factor in the province's economy," said Michael Baker, acting Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "By continuing to upgrade our road network we are supporting the efforts of Nova Scotians to grow and prosper."
This section of roadway is part of the Ceilidh Trail, a popular tourism route that offers stunning views of the rugged coastline and green hills of western Cape Breton.
"Not only are good roads critical for commercial traffic they also help promote tourism," said Rodney MacDonald, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Heritage. "Robust communities need top-notch transportation facilities to encourage visitors."
The Department of Transportation and Public Works' highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from district offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
