Sherbrooke Show & Shine Enters Second Decade

As the annual Sherbrooke Show & Shine enters its second decade, organizers are expecting a turnout of about 200 classic and antique cars.

The Show and Shine has gained a reputation as one of the best mid-sized shows in Atlantic Canada. It has won two Tourism Industry Association of Nova Scotia awards and has built up a loyal following among exhibitors from across the region.

This year's show, Saturday, Sept. 10 and Sunday, Sept. 11, is being organized by members of the St. Mary's Minor Hockey Association.

"People have expressed concerns about rising gas prices," said Lisa MacDonald, chair of Show and Shine. "But we’re getting the sense that car owners will perhaps take in fewer shows this summer and concentrate on the ones they enjoy the best. Many people have told us that the Sherbrooke Show & Shine is one of their 'can't miss events'."

George Brothers, manager of program development at Sherbrooke Village, which partners with the Show & Shine committee to produce the event, credits the success of the show to the hard work of the committees, past and present, and to the support from the tourism sector.

"The Show and Shine has been recognized for its contribution to the tourism industry through support from the Antigonish Eastern Shore Tourist Association, Department of Tourism Heritage and Culture, and from many tourism operators on the Marine Drive," said Mr. Brothers.

"This year alone we're bringing more than 20 new business partners to the table through a new Sherbrooke Now passport program. Accommodations in the area are already at close to capacity for that weekend, so we think this is a positive sign."

The event will once again feature a grand prize for participants, prizes in 16 automotive categories, and numerous door prizes. Other returning favourites include a classic rock and roll dance with a live band, a silent auction, a Saturday night cruise and poker rally on the St. Mary's River.
