Highway Maintenance Projects Scheduled for Six Counties
Drivers and taxpayers will benefit from stronger, smoother road surfaces and extended pavement life as a result of a road-improvement tender announced by the province.
The Department of Transportation and Public Works called the tender for crack filling and crack sealing on various roads in the following six counties:
- Antigonish County, 6.9 kilometres
- Cape Breton County, 12.3 kilometres
- Guysborough County, 16.5 kilometres
- Inverness County, 15.4 kilometres
- Richmond County, 11.2 kilometres
- Victoria County, 8.2 kilometres
The work adds up to about 70.5 kilometres of highway.
"By performing this maintenance now the department can save larger construction costs later on," said Michael Baker, acting Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "This project will smooth and protect several sections of existing paved highways."
The Department of Transportation and Public Works highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from district offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
