Canada Games, The Experience of a Lifetime
Team Nova Scotia athletes won 46 medals, set new records, achieved personal bests and had the experience of a lifetime at the 2005 Canada Games in Regina, Sask.
The team finished the two weeks of competition Saturday, Aug. 20, in sixth place. Medals were won in athletics, canoe/kayak, women's basketball, rowing, rugby, sailing and swimming.
Canoe/kayak was Nova Scotia's powerhouse in the first week with 28 medals. Athletics led the second week with eight medals -- three more than ever before.
"We had a great two weeks in Regina, both in terms of our athletic performance and the personal experiences for our team members," said chef de mission Russell MacDonald. "We offer our thanks to the Games' organizers and all the volunteers for giving our athletes an experience they'll remember forever."
Team Nova Scotia athletes are supported by 45 coaches, 23 managers, two boatmen and 18 mission staff. Four young artists participated in the National Artists Program at the Games, bringing the team's total to 422 Nova Scotians.
