Three Road Improvement Contracts Awarded in Antigonish County
The province has awarded three separate contracts worth $2.4 million for road improvements that will help traffic roll smoothly and safely in Antigonish County.
The first contract is for repaving on Highway 104, from west of the intersection of Taylors Road east for 7.2 kilometres to the intersection of Pomquet River Road. The winning contractor was Cumberland Paving & Contracting Ltd. with a bid of $1,498,450.
Also awarded was a contract for the replacement of the bridge over the Clydesdale River, south of Clydesdale on the Clydesdale Road. The winning contractor was Laredo Construction Co. Ltd. with a bid of $508,012.
The third contract is for gravelling, crack filling, and coating on Lower West Road for 2.3 kilometres from the intersection of Trunk 7, and on Ohio East Road, west from Trunk 7 for 5.1 kilometres. The winning contractor was Industrial Cold Milling Limited with a bid of $391,350.
"Highways are a major economic driver for the province," said Michael Baker, acting Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "Projects like these help smooth the way for Nova Scotia's economy."
The Department of Transportation and Public Works' highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
