Cape Breton Communities to Benefit from Paving Contract
Several Cape Breton communities will have smoother roads when a recently announced repaving contract is completed.
The $543,042 contract, awarded to Municipal Ready Mix Ltd., is for repaving in the following areas of Cape Breton County:
- Mapleview Drive, North Sydney -- from the intersection of Highway 105 for 1.3 kilometres to the end of the cul de sac;
- Meadowbrook Drive, Sydney Mines -- from the intersection of Cemetery Road for 0.4 kilometres to the gate;
- MacAulay Street, Florence -- from the intersection of Little Pond Road east for about 0.4 kilometres;
- LeBlanc Road, Florence -- from the intersection of Route 305 east for about 0.5 kilometres.
The Department of Transportation and Public Works has an ongoing program to upgrade Nova Scotia's secondary highways. The department's capital budget for highway construction was increased by more than $30 million for 2005-06.
The department's highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
