Eclectic Concerts Planned in Sherbrooke

There will be a number of reasons to wish you were in Sherbrooke during August, including the eclectic musical schedule being offered as part of the Courthouse Concert series each Thursday at the Sherbrooke Village.

On Thursday, Aug. 4, Musique Royale returns to Sherbrooke with a special classical concert featuring Ensemble de temps en temps. The trio consists of Halifax soprano Ruth Phillips on vocals, accompanied by viol and lute. It plays classical music from the English, French and Spanish traditions. Admission is $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and $5 for students.

Sherbrooke fan-favourite Hal Bruce will bring his pop-folk repertoire to the courthouse on Aug. 11. Bruce, who is becoming well-known for his one-man Beatles show, is sure to include some of the material he has recorded on his two Beatles' tribute CDs in this concert.

On Aug. 18 Dan MacKinnon hits the stage in Sherbrooke, fresh from his annual tour of the British Isles. Dan's strong baritone voice has earned him legions of fans over the years through performances at such diverse venues as international folk festivals and the Halifax Farmers' Market.

Aug. 25 marks the return of the Ceilidh at the Courthouse. Area musicians Roly and Ellie Burton, and Bob MacDonald, will be joined by Cape Breton pianist/entertainer Adam Cooke along with guest dancers A.J. Long and Alison Carruthers.

All concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. and admission is $8, unless otherwise noted.
