Men's Volleyball Team Named for Canada Games

Twelve Nova Scotia volleyball players will be hitting the court in Regina, Sask., at the 2005 Canada Summer Games from Aug. 6 to 20.

The final team was selected after a series of camps over the past two years, including a tournament in P.E.I. where the Nova Scotia team played against Canada Games teams from the island and New Brunswick.

The team began full-time training on June 29, and will compete in a pre-Canada Games tournament in Calgary at the end of July.

Head coach Dan Ota of Halifax will lead the team along with assistant coach Jon Elliott of Cole Harbour and manager Eugene Tan of Halifax.

"We have excellent team defense and good outside attackers," said Mr. Ota. "We should be the top Atlantic team in the Calgary tournament."

Team Nova Scotia will have a maximum of 357 athletes competing in 16 sports during the two weeks of the Games. The athletes are supported by 45 coaches, 22 managers, two boatmen and 18 mission staff. Four young artists will participate in the National Artists Program at the Games, bringing the team's total to 448 Nova Scotians.

Names of members of the men's volleyball team and others who have been selected for Team Nova Scotia are available in the Meet the Team section of the team's website at http://ns.canadagames.ca/summer2005 .
