Demolition of Bell Road Building

Transportation and Public Works (to Oct. 2007)

Students on peninsular Halifax moved one step closer to a new high school on the historic Halifax Common today, June 5.

A contract has been awarded to dismantle the former Halifax campus of the Nova Scotia Community College on Bell Road, and clear the site for the construction of Citadel High School. The $21.7 million school will replace St. Patrick's and Queen Elizabeth high schools.

"We're managing this project in a way that will ensure that, wherever possible, useful resources are reused or recycled for the future," said Ron Russell, Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "The province will be ready to build a new school on the site just as soon as this work is done."

A&L Concrete Forming Ltd. has been awarded the $684,000 contract, and will begin tearing down the building this summer.

Following the removal of salvage and regulated materials, the building will be demolished using large equipment. The demolition is expected to take about four months.
