Preliminary Plebiscite Results Say Yes to Agency Stores

Residents of three Nova Scotia communities are in favour of having liquor stores in their area according to preliminary results of a plebiscite.

The plebiscites held in Maitland, Hants Co.; Cambridge, Hants Co.; and Tidnish, Cumberland Co., on Tuesday, June 28, have resulted in "Yes" votes in all three communities. The results were provided to the Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation by Elections Nova Scotia.

The unofficial results are as follows: in Tidnish 306 were in favour, 40 were opposed; in Maitland 242 were in favour, 107 were opposed; and in Cambridge 200 were in favour, 69 were opposed and one ballot was rejected.

The Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation generates almost a half-a- billion dollars of revenue a year returning in excess of $170 million profit annually to the province. It employs more than 1,300 Nova Scotians, offering 3,000 products from around the globe through 108 retail and 19 agency stores across the province.
