Comments Sought on Tar Ponds and Coke Ovens Cleanup
Nova Scotians will have a say about what is in the draft guidelines for the preparation of the environmental impact statement for the Sydney Tar Ponds and Coke Ovens remediation project.
The Nova Scotia Department of Environment and Labour and the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency invite public comment on the guidelines that, once finalized, will identify the issues the Sydney Tar Ponds Agency will be required to address in its environmental impact statement for the proposed project.
Kerry Morash, Minister of Environment and Labour, and Minister of Environment Canada Stephane Dion will finalize the guidelines after reviewing public comments. The guidelines will then be issued to the Sydney Tar Ponds Agency.
Written comments on the draft guidelines received by Saturday, July 30 will be considered. Comments can be forwarded, in any official language, to the Sydney Tar Ponds and Coke Ovens Review, P.O. Box 431, Sydney, N.S., B1P 6H2, or by e-mail to [email protected] .
All comments will be considered public and will become part of the public registry for the project. For more information on this project and others, visit the Canadian Environmental Assessment Registry website at www.ceaa-acee.gc.ca/050/index_e.cfm , reference number 05-05-8989.
