Two Paving Contracts Awarded for Cape Breton County

Two road-paving contracts with a combined value of more than $1.4 million have been awarded in Cape Breton County by the Department of Transportation and Public Works.

Dexter Construction Co. Inc. was awarded a $1,181,990 contract to repave Route 216 in the Eskasoni area from Crane Cove Lane for about seven kilometres to the end of the curb and sidewalk.

A second contract, worth $232,381, was awarded to Municipal Ready Mix Ltd. and involves repaving on Route 255 (Main Street in Port Morien) from Shore Road for 1.3 kilometres to the west, and on Breakwater Street from Route 255 south for 0.2 kilometres.

"Drivers on these sections of road will be more comfortable because of the new pavement," said Ron Russell, Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "Our department is working hard to upgrade Nova Scotia's roads."

The Department of Transportation and Public Works' highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from district offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
