Cleanup Sponsors Online Cape Breton Business Directory

The Sydney Tar Ponds Agency has called tenders for the creation of an online Cape Breton Island business directory.

"The $400-million cleanup represents a tremendous business opportunity for local companies," said Frank Potter, the agency's director of operations in Sydney.

The agency will sponsor an online business directory containing detailed descriptions of island businesses that can contribute services or products to the cleanup of the Sydney Tar Ponds and Coke Ovens.

"We want to encourage contractors to use local suppliers of goods and services," said Mr. Potter.

The Internet-based system will enable local companies to post and update complete profiles of their businesses, including capabilities, experience, number of employees and contact information. Once posted, the information will be available for viewing by any company that might have a need for such goods or services.

Complete tender documents are available at the Sydney Tar Ponds Agency office, 1 Inglis St., Sydney. Bids close at 2 p.m., Thursday, July 14.
