Canada Games Baseball Team Named
Eighteen baseball players will step up to the plate in Regina, Sask. at the 2005 Canada Summer Games from Aug. 6 to 20.
The final baseball team was selected after a series of games against Nova Scotia senior teams. Between now and the Games, the team will be playing a reduced schedule in the senior baseball league and will participate in a few tournaments.
Head coach Todd Parker of Cole Harbour will lead the team to the Games along with assistant coach Grant MacKinnon of Dartmouth. The manager is Ken Lenihan of Bedford.
"We're 2 and 1 in the senior league and I'm very happy with the way the guys are playing," said Mr. Parker. "They are playing ahead of our expectations, and I am confident that these players will represent Nova Scotia well."
Team Nova Scotia will have a maximum of 357 athletes competing in 16 sports during the two weeks of the games. They are supported by 45 coaches, 20 managers, one boatman and 18 missions staff. Four young artists will participate in the National Artists Program at the Games, bringing the team's total to 445 Nova Scotians.
Names of the baseball team members and others who have been selected for Team Nova Scotia are available in the Meet the Team section of the team's website at http://ns.canadagames.ca/summer2005 .
