Atlantic 4-H Members Improve Skills
Seventy-two 4-H members from across Atlantic Canada will improve their technical livestock skills during a weekend of training and competitions.
The annual Eastern Breeders Incorporated 4-H Showcase is being held Sunday, June 26 to Tuesday, June 28 at the Nova Scotia Agricultural College in Bible Hill.
Experts from Eastern Breeders Incorporated will teach 4-H members the finer points of show preparation for beef and dairy cattle and the latest techniques in clipping, designing displays and herd management.
"The specific training that 4-H members learn at this Atlantic event is valuable to young dairy and beef producers," said Chris d’Entremont, Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries.
After two days of training, 4-H members compete for top honours with their own calves at the beef and dairy show. Awards will be presented to the winners in each class.
The show is being held at 10 a.m on Tuesday, June 28 at the MacMillan Show Centre at the Provincial Exhibition Grounds in Truro. The public is invited to attend.
"The Nova Scotia 4-H program is pleased to partner with Eastern Breeders Incorporated to offer this specialized training to 4-H members and future livestock exhibitors," said Elizabeth Crouse, manager, 4-H. "Programs like this will ensure that good-management practices are learned early on and can be applied on the family farm."
For the past 16 years, the showcase has been sponsored by Eastern Breeders Incorporated in partnership with 4-H staff from the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries.
