Agency Seeks Domtar Timetable

The Sydney Tar Ponds Agency is working with the contractor that is removing the Domtar tank to establish a firm timetable for completing the work.

"We'd like to see the project wrapped up soon," said Richard Morykot, an engineer with the agency. "It will eliminate the last eyesore from the Coke Ovens property."

Clean Harbors Canada Inc. partially dismantled the temporary building that contained the tank during removal of the tank's contents.

The tank is empty. The last of its contents -- 1,500 tonnes of thickened coal tar and tarry debris -- has been placed in containers and loaded on rail cars awaiting shipment at the Cape Breton and Central Nova Scotia rail yard.

The $3.7-million job was to have wrapped up in May.
