Tenders Called for Two Paving Projects in Cape Breton County

Two summer road-paving projects will result in smoother travel in Cape Breton County.

The Department of Transportation and Public Works is calling for tenders for two separate road-paving contracts. One is for repaving on Route 223 from the Highway 125 underpass for 6.6 kilometres east toward Leitches Creek.

The second project is for new paving on the following three roads in Cape Breton County: Leblanc Road in Millville; Petersfield Court in Westmount; and Andrews Lane in Port Morien. This tender involves the construction of 1.3 kilometres of new pavement. The Cape Breton Regional Municipality is contributing half of the project cost.

"Good roads are essential to the well being of Nova Scotia," said Ron Russell, Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "Our department is working hard to get our highways in top shape."

The Department of Transportation and Public Works highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from district offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
