Paving Contract Awarded in Colchester County
A busy road in eastern Colchester County, popular as a logging route, will stand up better under heavy vehicle traffic when a recently announced repaving contract is completed.
The $2,839,170 contract, awarded to S.W. Weeks Construction Ltd., is for repaving on Route 289 from the intersection of Southside Road in the Upper Stewiacke area for 11.1 kilometres to the intersection of Route 336 at Springside.
"Our department has an aggressive program to upgrade Nova Scotia's secondary highways," said Ron Russell, Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "We have increased our capital budget for highway construction by more than $30 million. Most of that increase is going to upgrade secondary highways."
The Department of Transportation and Public Works' highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
