Province Thanks Those Who Responded to Recent Flooding

Emergency workers and volunteers responded quickly and professionally to recent floods in south-western Nova Scotia, helping minimize damage and ensure the safety of people in the area.

"The dedication and support demonstrated by everyone involved has been exceptional," said Premier John Hamm. "I extend thanks to everyone involved in this extraordinary effort. It was gratifying to witness first-hand both the commitment of emergency workers and the resilience of affected residents."

On Thursday, May 26, Premier Hamm visited the Emergency Operations Centre in Bridgewater and toured the surrounding areas, surveying the damage.

"Nova Scotia's emergency responders continue to rise to the challenges set before them," said Ernest Fage, Minister responsible for the Emergency Measures Act. "We owe a huge debt of gratitude to all who staffed the emergency operations centre and the numerous other workers and volunteers."

As the operation moves into the recovery phase, officials with the province and municipality are beginning to assess the damage. These assessments will help determine if the province is eligible for cost-shared financial assistance with the federal government. This would be co-ordinated through Disaster Financial Assistance Arrangements. If an assistance program is created for this event, an announcement will follow.
