N.S. FILM DEVELOPMENT CORP.--Trailer Park Goes Hollywood
The Nova Scotia Film Development Corporation today, May 30, extended congratulations to Julian, Ricky, Bubbles and all the gang at Sunnyvale Trailer Park on their move to the big screen.
Cameras will begin rolling on June 27 on Trailer Park Boys: The Movie. The original cast of John Paul Tremblay, Robb Wells and Mike Smith will be joined by more than 50 cast and crew for what is expected to be a 45-day shoot.
The Nova Scotia creative team behind the Trailer Park Boys television series has teamed up with Hollywood producer Ivan Reitman (of Ghostbusters fame) to make the hit TV series into a feature film that is expected to be in theatres across North America next year.
"Over the years, film corporation investments in programs like Trailer Park Boys have put Nova Scotia on the film-industry map," said Ernest Fage, the Minister responsible for the film corporation. "These local investments continue to pay off in terrific new ways for the province, with major productions like the Trailer Park film project -- congratulations to all."
The Gemini Award-winning series, now in its fifth season, follows the antics of Julian, Ricky and Bubbles -- the lovable losers from Sunnyvale Trailer Park.
The Nova Scotians behind the series -- Mike Clattenburg, Barrie Dunn, and Mike Volpe -- are producing while Los Angeles-based Reitman will executive produce under Montecito Pictures. In addition to his blockbuster, Ghostbusters, Mr. Reitman has produced some of Hollywood's most successful comedies such as Animal House and Stripes.
Trailer Park Boys has emerged as a powerhouse on the national television scene since its debut as a low-budget film at the 1999 Atlantic Film Festival. The comedy series has attracted a large following in Canada and the United States, where the series began airing on BBC America last April. Fans have also been treated to a Christmas special (December 2004) and a full line of Trailer Park Boys merchandise.
"The Nova Scotia Film Development Corporation is proud of its involvement with the upcoming feature film and proud of its support for the series from the very beginning," said Ann MacKenzie, chief executive officer of the corporation. "We believe the Trailer Park Boys' appeal will translate well to the big screen and be every bit as big a hit as the series."
Funding through the film corporation's equity-investment and tax-credit programs, which date back to the first season of the series, made it possible for the producers of Trailer Park Boys to bring their program to the small screen, and now to the big screen.
The Nova Scotia Film Development Corporation is a provincial Crown corporation reporting to the minister of Economic Development. The corporation provides a wide range of programs and services to build the capacity and competitiveness of the province's film, television and new media industries.
