TRANSPORTATION/PUBLIC WORKS--Paving Contract Awarded for Glooscap Trail in Cumberland County

  • ---------------------------------------------------------------Motorists journeying to the gems along the Glooscap Trail will have a smoother trip after the completion of a million-dollar road-paving project near Port Greville in Cumberland County.

Transportation and Public Works has awarded a $1,090,205 contract for Route 209 to Cumberland Paving & Contracting Ltd. The work involves repaving on Route 209 from west of the junction of Ramshead River Road, west for about 6.4 kilometres to the junction of North Greville Road.

"The Glooscap Trail is a popular drive because of the many great activities for visitors and residents," said Ron Russell, Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "Rock hounds, berry pickers, clam diggers and just plain rubberneckers will appreciate having this section brought back to top condition."

The Department of Transportation and Public Works' highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
