Tender Called for Paving Project in Kings County

Motorists on Route 201, heading west out of Greenwood, will soon experience a smoother ride thanks to a paving project to be completed this summer.

The Department of Transportation and Public Works has advertised a tender for repaving on Route 201, from Bridge Street in Greenwood west for 1.5 kilometres to the Kings/Annapolis county line.

"Improving our secondary highways is a top priority with our department," said Ron Russell, Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "Our budget has been increased by $30 million for 2005-06 and much of that increase will go into improvements on secondary highways."

The tender will close on Friday, May 27.

The Department of Transportation and Public Works highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from district offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
