Toll-free Line Launched for Adoption Information

Children in Nova Scotia who are waiting for a loving and permanent home may be one step closer to a family of their own. A toll-free telephone line has now been established to connect families wishing to learn more about adoption with adoption information and resources.

"Every child deserves to have a family -- people to love them, care for them and stay connected to them permanently," David Morse, Minister of Community Services, said today, May 13. "The launch of this toll-free information line is one more way to encourage Nova Scotians to consider adoption."

The Department of Community Services launched the toll-free line, 1-866-259-7780, to encourage more Nova Scotians to consider adopting a young person waiting for a permanent and loving family of their own.

The province is working to increase the number of children placed for adoption. Many of these youngsters are older children, siblings or children with special needs.

Callers to the toll-free line will receive an information package on adoption and may be referred to adoption resources and pre-assessment services in the community where appropriate.
