Paving Contract Awarded for Trunk 12
Drivers who use Trunk Highway 12, a popular connecting route between the Annapolis Valley and the South Shore will have a much smoother trip after the completion of an $893,700 road-paving contract announced recently.
The contract was awarded to Lafarge Canada Inc. and should be completed during the 2005 construction season. It involves the repaving of two sections of Trunk 12. One section runs from Forties Road at New Ross, north for 5.3 kilometres, to Adams Road. The second section runs from the Lunenburg-Kings county line, north for 3.1 kilometres, to Legge Road.
"Trunk 12 is a popular connecting route between the Valley and the South Shore," said Ron Russell, Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "This project will make the road safer for all users."
The Department of Transportation and Public Works' highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
