TRANSPORTATION/PUBLIC WORKS--Tenders Called for Two Paving Projects in Cape Breton County

Residents of two Cape Breton communities will be driving on safer and more comfortable roads after the completion of two paving projects that were tendered recently.

The Transportation and Public Works tenders are for two separate contracts. One contract is for repaving on Route 216 in the Eskasoni area from Crane Cove Lane for about seven kilometers to the end of the curb and sidewalk.

The second contract is for repaving on Route 255 (Main Street in Port Morien) from Shore Road for 1.3 kilometres to the west, and on Breakwater Street from Route 255 south for 0.2 kilometres.

"These projects are part of our 2005 construction schedule," said Ron Russell, Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "They will make travel on these sections of roadway smoother and safer for all users."

The Eskasoni tender closes on Thursday, May 5, and the Port Morien tender will close on Friday, May 6.

The Department of Transportation and Public Works' highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from district offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
