Contract Awarded for Highway 125 in Cape Breton County
TRANSPORTATION/PUBLIC WORKS--Contract Awarded for Highway 125 in Cape Breton County
Residents and the many visitors who drive on one of Cape Breton's busiest highways can look forward to a smooth ride after the completion of a recently awarded $2-million road-paving contract near Sydney.
The contract was awarded to Dexter Construction Ltd. and involves the repaving of two sections of Highway 125. The westbound lanes will be repaved from 1.2 kilometres west of Exit 3 for 4.8 kilometres. The eastbound lanes will be repaved from Meadowbrook Drive east for 4.1 kilometres to one kilometre east of Exit 2.
"Highway 125 is the major road link between Sydney and the Trans- Canada Highway," said Ron Russell, Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "This project will make this section safer and more comfortable for visitors and residents."
The Department of Transportation and Public Works' highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
