Tender Called for Road Work South of Oxford
Drivers in the River Philip area south of Oxford in Cumberland County will benefit from improved traction on a glossy section of Wyvern Road after the completion of a road-improvement project this summer.
The province advertised a tender recently for the application of a surface treatment on Wyvern Road from the junction of Route 321 at River Philip for 8.1 kilometres to Wentworth Collingwood Road.
"This type of application is usually used on our 100-series highways but we think it's the best coating to use to improve traction on this section," said Ron Russell, Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "The treatment will also seal cracks and extend the life of the pavement."
The tender will close on Thursday, May 5 and the work is scheduled for completion by the end of August.
The Department of Transportation and Public Works highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from district offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
