Three Road Improvement Contracts Awarded in Inverness County

TRANSPORTATION/PUBLIC WORKS--Three Road Improvement Contracts Awarded in Inverness County


Three separate contracts for road improvements worth a total of $2.3 million will help make for smoother travels for motorists in Inverness County.

The work, which is scheduled to be finished by the end of the year, involves three separate contracts, announced today, April 14, two for repaving different sections of Highway 105 and a third for improvements to the Highway 19 culvert across Malcolm Brook.

Two projects are on Highway 105, on either side of Whycocomagh:

  • East of exit five, there will be patching and repaving from east of the provincial park in Whycocomagh for about five kilometres. The winning contractor was Dexter Construction Co. Ltd. with a bid of $940,130.
  • West of exit four, patching and repaving will be done for about 8.2 kilometres to the Skye River. The winning contractor was Cumberland Paving and Contracting Ltd. with a bid of $1,194,300.

The work at Malcolm Brook on Trunk Highway 19 consists of upgrading of the culvert at this location near southwest Mabou. The winning contractor was J and T Van Zutphen Construction Inc. with a bid of $136,000.

Work is scheduled to be finished by the end of the year.

"Good roads are the lifeline that keep products and people flowing through Nova Scotia," said Ron Russell, Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "These projects will benefit not only local residents but also the thousands of visitors who travel these roads every year."

The Department of Transportation and Public Works highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
