PREMIER'S OFFICE--Premier Expresses Nova Scotians' Sadness Over Passing of Pope
Premier John Hamm expressed sadness, today, April 2, over the passing of Pope John Paul II, saying the pontiff's legacy as a champion of human rights will live on.
"The world has lost an important religious and moral leader," said the premier. "Pope John Paul II led an extraordinary life and inspired millions of people with his concern for human rights and especially the rights of children.
"Many Nova Scotians, regardless of religious affiliation, fondly remember the Pope's visit to Halifax in 1984."
Pope John Paul II died today in Vatican City. He was 84.
