Province To Host Snow Crab Seminar
Nova Scotians involved in the snow crab fishery will have an opportunity to learn about international markets and prospects for the future when the provincial Department of Agriculture and Fisheries hosts a one-day seminar on Tuesday, March 29.
John Sackton of Seafood.com will present a market outlook for the 2005 snow crab season. Mr. Sackton has provided market information and forecasts on Canadian snow crab for seven years.
The seminar will cover information on the U.S. and Japanese markets; other major suppliers in Alaska and Newfoundland and Labrador; perceptions of the quality of Nova Scotia snow crab; the quantity of snow crab inventories; snow crab pricing; and an overview of the 2004 snow crab season.
Snow crab harvesters, processors, plant workers and off-loaders are encouraged to attend. The seminar will be held in Port Hawkesbury at the Civic Centre from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Lunch will be provided. Further information about the seminar is available by calling Linde Greening at 902-424-0161.
