Students Answer Important Question Through The Arts

Students from two Halifax junior high schools are using music, drama and visual art to show how we can all live well together.

The arts project is a collaboration of the Department of Education, ArtsSmarts Nova Scotia, junior high school students and local artists.

"This sends an important message to all Nova Scotians," said Education Minister Jamie Muir. "These students, who come from diverse backgrounds, are using their creative abilities to demonstrate the importance of respecting one another and living well with people from all backgrounds."

Working with local artists, Danni Oore, Shauntay Grant and Avery Crawley, students used their creative abilities to respond to the question: "How do we live well together?"

Tina Babineau is one of the 25 students involved from Graham Creighton Junior High and Rockingstone Heights Junior High.

"This kind of project is so important because it allows students to express themselves, appreciate others, and learn to believe in themselves," said Ms. Babineau. "It doesn't matter who you are, with friends and music you can go far!"

Students completed the project today, March 11, with musical and dramatic performances and displays of visual art at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia.
