New Jobs for Valley Plant
A provincial loan is helping generate new jobs in Kings County.
Frito Lay is investing $5 million in capital upgrades to its plant in the Annapolis Valley. The provincial contribution is a $500,000 loan.
Economic Development Minister Ernest Fage said the provincial investment has led to the creation of a new production line and packaging innovation system at the company plant in Kings County. It will also lead to 15 new jobs at the plant and increase the company's payroll around the province.
"The new production line means a long-term commitment from Frito Lay and opportunities for workers and local agricultural producers," Mr. Fage said today, March 8. "The strength and dedication of the workforce was a big reason Frito Lay is investing in this plant. This is a smart investment that generates opportunities for people."
"This facility supports the future growth of our company and, more importantly, the Kentville community," said Ralph Comeau, manufacturing manager for Frito Lay Canada. "We're honoured to be recognized for our contribution to economic development in Kentville and are pleased to be working with an administration that promotes local growth."
The new production line in Frito Lay's Kentville manufacturing facility will primarily produce potato chips.
"Today's announcement represents new investment in the local economy and provides the potato sector with additional value- added opportunities," said Chris d'Entremont, Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries.
The five-year loan is forgivable if payroll and maintenance targets are met.
