Electronic Waste Consultation Extended

Nova Scotians will have an additional month to provide their views on proposed regulations to ban computers, televisions and other electronic products from landfills.

The Department of Environment and Labour is extending its public consultation on the draft regulations until April 11. The extension is at the request of stakeholders who want more time to submit comments.

"Addressing electronic waste is part of our solid waste management strategy for Nova Scotia," said Environment and Labour Minister Kerry Morash. "We're happy to give Nova Scotians another month to comment on our proposal to make industry responsible for keeping this waste out of our landfills."

The public consultation began on Feb. 9. The draft regulations ban numerous electronic products from landfills. They also outline requirements for brand owners to develop electronic products stewardship programs.

More information and the draft regulations are available on the department's website at www.gov.ns.ca/enla in the What's New section.
