EMERGENCY MEASURES ORGANIZATION--Precautions Issued for Impending Storm
A heavy snowfall and blizzard warning has been issued for Nova Scotia for Friday, Feb. 25. The provincial Emergency Measures Organization (EMO) is advising the public to take precautions.
"The public is aware of the effects severe weather can have on our daily lives," said Peter Christie, acting Minister responsible for the Emergency Measures Act. "One of the most important things individuals can do is listen for updated weather information or public safety bulletins and act accordingly."
A battery powered radio and spare batteries will be vital in getting up-to-date information if power outages occur.
"We are monitoring the storm closely to ensure we have the most current information," said Craig MacLaughlan, executive director, EMO. "Individuals are asked to contact people who may be more vulnerable or those living alone, to see if they need assistance."
Everyone should have an emergency kit ready at all times. This kit should include: food, a supply of water, clothing, blankets, medication, flashlight, extra batteries and a first aid kit.
Nova Scotians can visit the EMO website at www.gov.ns.ca/emo to obtain more information on emergency preparedness.
