AGRICULTURE AND FISHERIES--N.S. Wines Highlighted In Seasonal Promotion
Nova Scotia wines are highlighted in wine, cuisine and romance packages.
The Department of Agriculture and Fisheries and Destination Halifax are introducing hotel, resort and restaurant packages that highlight Nova Scotia-produced wines as part of February's Bon Appetit month.
"There are seven wineries in the province that make a variety of wines from 100 per cent Nova Scotia-grown grapes, and we have several new wineries preparing to open in the next few years," said Chris d'Entremont, Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries. "Along with Destination Halifax, we have put together some fun food and accommodation packages that feature Nova Scotia wine products."
In 2003, more than one million pounds of grapes were grown on more than 100 hectares of property in nine counties in Nova Scotia. The crop was valued at $640,000.
"Nova Scotia grape growers and wineries have built a world class reputation through the quality of the products they sell," said Mr. d'Entremont. "Our wines have been recognized internationally and have won many awards."
Participating businesses in the special February promotion include White Point Beach Resort, Oak Island Resort, Spa and Convention, Holiday Inn Harbourview, Howard Johnson Maranova Hotel and Suites - Dartmouth, Scanway Catering Limited, Valley Wine Tours, Five Fishermen Restaurant and Sainte Famille Winery.
