Partners in Education Invited to Consultation

Hundreds of parents, teachers, principals, students, school board members, and other education partners will gather in Truro next month to provide input on Nova Scotia's public education system. The Partners' Forum will take place at the Cobequid Educational Centre on Feb. 18 and 19.

"We're very excited to have our partners in education in one room talking about how we can improve the education system," said Jamie Muir, Minister of Education. "Premier Hamm has made the education and health of our children government's first priority. This forum will give all partners an opportunity to provide input on the direction of public education in this province."

The Department of Education will present a range of ideas for discussion, which build on Learning for Life, a three-year plan introduced in 2002-03.

"Learning for Life sets a solid foundation for student success and now it's time to build on that," said Mr. Muir. "The goal is for every student to leave school prepared for their future and able to contribute to a more healthy and prosperous Nova Scotia. To reach that goal, we have to continue to work together with student success as our first priority."

Attendance at the forum is by invitation. Attendees will also include representatives from school advisory councils, the Nova Scotia School Boards Association, the Nova Scotia Teachers Union, government departments and others.

After the forum, all Nova Scotians will have an opportunity to provide input through the Department of Education website. In the spring, the department will release a new plan for education in Nova Scotia.
