Delegation Comes to Nova Scotia

A delegation of officials from the South African province of Eastern Cape has arrived in Nova Scotia to study how the Department of Community Services works.

The delegation will meet with senior Community Services staff to learn about the department's program and project management practices. The delegation leader, Neo Moerane-Mamase, a member of Eastern Cape's executive council, will also meet with her counterpart, Community Services Minister David Morse.

The officials will take what they learn back to their home province to help improve their income assistance, child welfare programs and services for people with disabilities.

"Community Services is pleased to welcome Mrs. Moerane-Mamase and her staff to Nova Scotia," said Mr. Morse. "We're continually learning, from work with our community partners and clients, how best to support people in need. We're happy to share what we've learned, and look forward to a true and ongoing friendship between our two provinces."

Delegates from the Eastern Cape Department of Social Development will meet with Community Services staff and community organizations to study a number of key areas including: income assistance; services for children, youth and families; services for people with special needs; human resources management; partnerships with community organizations; policy development and information technology.

The mission is sponsored and funded by the Technical Assistance Facility of the Canadian International Development Agency.
